Memorial Day 2010

I sit here this morning watching the flag flutter in the breeze, remembering all the soilders who gave their lives for my freedom.  Who knows what my life would be like without their sacrifice and the sacrifice of their families.

Pearl Harbor a site where thousands gave their lives for my freedom and the United States wasn't even a part of the World War at that time.  Pearl Harbor is a beautiful monument to remind us of the sacrifices of the soilders who gave their all for us.

I went to Pearl Harbor in 2006.  It was a very moving experience.  You leave the visitors center and a hush falls as the boat ferries us to the memorial.  As you move into the memorial, you immediately see a wall with the names of the fallen.

And the names of those who are being returned to rest with their commrads for all eternity

As you wander the memorial, you can see it crying still, so many years later

When you leave the memorial, the hush follows as you contemplate all that passed on this spot so many years ago.  All the lives lost, all the innocence lost, the freedoms that were almost lost but were not because of the bravery of the men and women of our United States Armed Forces and their families.

So on this Memorial Day, please take a moment to reflect on your freedoms and those who sacrified theirs for their country and YOU.

  3. Love this post. So you went to Pearl Harbor? Awesome. I am thankful for the freedoms we have in this country, and would give my life - like so many of those brave soldiers have done - to preserve those freedoms.
