Country Girl in the City

I grew up in a little town of just under 1,100.  Actually, now that Jakes and I moved out, I think it is defintely UNDER 1,100.  Country roads, no stop lights, and you know everyone.  If I didn't know them, they knew who I was and knew my parents.

Last weekend, AZ and I moved from my tiny little apartment on the River in the little town where I grew up and into the City.  At least its like a city to me.  There are over 13,000 people who live there.  There are shopping centers, stop lights, restaurants, banks, post office and access to highways.  All within 5 minutes of our new home.

There are streets I have never heard of or ridden on before.  I am still learning my way around. I can find my way on the main roads and AZ can get me confused by taking back ways to get to the same places.

We are still close to the water, just a block off the River.  Once I find my camera, I will take some pictures of the neighborhood and the new sunsets we have.

I am feeling a little out of my element in the City. I know I will adjust.   But there will always be some country in this girl.

Jumpin' Fish

I'm sitting here in my living room tonight cause its too buggy out there to sit on the porch.  Every window is open and I can see the sun racing to the finish line of the day.  The sky is changing from blue and orange to pinks and purples. Listening to the sea gulls on the mud flats in the marsh and the SLAP, SLAP SLAP of the fish jumping.  SLAP, SLAP SLAP.  Lots of fish are jumping.  They love to eat the bugs that are flying so low over the water.  Every where you look, there is disturbed spot in the water with rings running away toward the shore.  SLAP, SLAP, SLAP.

I told AZ he's missing a prime chance to catch us some dinner!

I get Jakes this weekend and boy do we have a busy one planned!  Dinner tonight on the way home from getting him.  Riding lessons and community day tomorrow morning.  Trip up North for a double birthday party where we'll spend the night.  Come home early Sunday so I can take my Mom's out for Mothers Day lunch.

Jakes has been texting me quite a bit this week.  Lots of love youuuuuuuuuuu's and stuff.  So cute!  And he starts it.  :)  He's also had a head cold so I think he's been wanting his momma.  All kids want their momma's when they're sick.

AZ started his new job yesterday and it kicked his BUTT.  He's not used to spending all that time on his feet.  And to be honest, if I were to do what he did yesterday, I probably would have been wiped out too.  Its not like a desk job, for sure!  But he's ready to go back and do some more.

SLAP, SLAP, SLAP.....  Wonder how far into the night this will go on..............

I finished up Season 6 of Weeds and can't wait for Netflix to get season 7.   hint, hint, hint!  I started on Vampire Diaries but its just not holding my attention right now. I'll give it another episode or so before I decide definitely.

Well, the tide must have turned cause I don't hear the birds or the SLAP, SLAP, SLAP anymore.  Time for bed.  Have a fabulous weekend my friends!

River Culture

Living on the River brings with it a different culture than what may be found with land-locked residents.  Normally the River looks like this:

Peaceful with cruise ships passing

We do a lot of cleaning of the windows on the River.  When the River looks like this:

You can guess where the water and spray goes.  If we want good weather, we don't wash the windows.  Kathy washed her front windows on Tuesday.  Wednesday into Thursday, it rained.

Another belief we have is that if we wash our vehicles in the winter, it will bring snow.  Dolores washed her truck inside and out a couple of weeks ago and we got a little covering of snow.  Had she scrubbed and detailed her truck we would have gotten this:

With these beliefs in place I have a favor to ask of ya'll.  AZ pulled out of his home in AZ last night to head back to the East Coast, premanently.  There will be no more washing of windows or vehicles until he gets here safe and sound.  Got that everyone?  Good!

Amazing Stuff That Floats By My House

I have written before about living on The River and all that comes with it.  We have lovely, peaceful mornings.  We have floods and animals, such as the baby eel that I picked up and the crabs that come from the meadow during high tides.  We've had Santa pull up to the beach around Christmas time.  We have a sand bar out front at low tide that Jaxon and Jacob love to play on. And we have wave action during storms.

Lovely boats sail by all the time. We also loose the beach in the winter.  Brrrrrr  And the Geesy's love to come and feast on the corn we put out.

Lots of differnt things to look for.  Last weekend I saw something VERY strange.

This floated by.
What is it?

A piece of land, with trees growing and everything

Never a dull moment on the River!

This is what I call DINNER.

My Step Brother and his family are visiting this week.  I haven't been home much to visit with them.  They live in Iowa.  He came home with a list of things he wanted to eat and places he wants to visit.  One of the things he wants to eat are crabs.  The first night he and I talked, he yelled (not really) at me because my crab pots weren't in the river collecting crabs.  I guess he thought since I knew he was coming, I'd rush right out and get the pots in the water.  hahahahahahaha.  Well, the next day I stopped home for lunch and they were in the water!  Awesomeness, Picklehead!

Everyone has been so busy with visiting and running around that no one has checked the pots for three days!  Yesterday, my therapist pushed back my appointment which gave me an hour to kill.  The tide was out, perfect for walking out to get the pots and see what's in them.

Here's what I found:

two pots, 10 crabs in each
3 females and 1 small male that I tossed back

This was dinner last night:

YUMMY!

Its Sunday already?!?!?

WOW. Where does the weekend go? Its Sunday already and I will have to go back to work tomorrow. ugh. Yesterday, I spent most of the day on the couch. I did get out of jammies to go to dinner with my parents. But was right back in them once home again!

Today, I had to go to the store, Son seems to want to eat when he comes home from his dads. grumble. The weather here seems to be getting better and actually, I am surprised that these Nor'easters haven't been worse. Here is a picture I took at High Tide today:

These are the steps leading to the beach (we have beach at low tide). We have had white caps out there all weekend.

Here is a shot of the fury of the River. This is a picture taken by my step mother on a different day. Its a bit blurry because the window she was taking it through was covered in River Spray.

We don't worry about the river over-flowing its banks. My parents have lived here for 7 years and have only been flooded once and that was from the meadow behind our house. Seen here:

Again, this is an old picture, we didn't have any flooding this weekend from the storms.

I hope your weekend has been a safe, warm and dry one! I still have time to color my hair and get a nap in before Son comes home! Yay me!

Peacful Morning

This morning was so lovely. The quiet and calm broken only by the screech of a bird and the upstairs neighbor fire pagers. Son still in bed. OH! Son still in bed! Gotta get him up so there is no repeat of yesterday! Anyway, here are pictures of my peaceful morning.
